Sarawak State of Malaysia
The state of Sarawak is one of the 2 "East Malaysia" states on the
northern part of Borneo Island. With the city of "Kuching" as its
capital city, Sarawak is the largest state in the whole of Malaysia.
The head of state for
Sarawak state is a "Yang DiPertua Negeri" (Governor).
The head of the state government is a "Ketua Menteri" (Chief Minister)
elected by the people.
Other than the capital city of Kuching, other important cities in Sarawak
are Sibu, Bintulu and the oil producing city of Miri.
The multi-racial population of Sarawak is made up of the Malays, Chinese,
Indians, Ibans, Bidayuhs, Melanaus, Lun Bawangs, Penans, etc.
Sarawak is a favourite holiday destination for both local tourists from
West Malaysia and also overseas tourists worldwide.
Its vast greenery of thick tropical forest and magnificent tributary of rivers,
has made Sarawak a favourite destination for holiday makers from all over the world.
Ask any tourist who have been to Sarawak, and they will tell you the exciting
"long houses" they have visited, the "orangutans", the "hornbills",
the "crocodiles", the limestone caves, the "birdnests", the "peppers", etc.
The people of Sarawak is known throughout Malaysia and globally, to be very
very kind and friendly. Apart from their humble character, the inherent
hospitality of the people of all races in Sarawak, is also what makes the
state so special. Sarawak is truely a melting pot of different races.
Multi-racial marriages are very common and the people of different ethnic
groups get along harmoniously with one another.

Islam, Christianity, Catholicism, Buddhism, Daoism, Hinduism, Bahaism, etc.
Among one of the best time to visit Sarawak is around June of every year.
This is the time when the whole of Sarawak celebrates the "Gawai" (Harvest)
festival. Long-house celebrations is a must for tourists and travellers to
visit.
The annual "Rain Forest Music Festival" is another good time to visit Sarawak.
This world class event brings musicians from all over the world to the
"Cultural Village" in Kuching for 3 days of performances. The RFMF has been
growing in size and significant over the years (and if you have attended it
before, you will know why).
